iamlukethedev: Herald OS, an Operating System Where the AI Agent Is Part of the OS, Is Open Source

@iamlukethedev

iamlukethedev says "I built an operating system where the AI agent isn’t another app. It’s part of the OS." Today, Herald OS is open source and can be installed: it is built around Hermes Agent by Nous Research, and users talk or type to Hermes to open and use apps, find and organize files, run routines and automations, build software, and understand what is on screen, approving any change first. They say native OS commands don’t need to burn model tokens. Herald OS Linux has Fedora underneath, themes can restyle the whole system, including the terminal, and it runs as a native Mac app for Apple Silicon, a PC installer from a USB stick, an Arch Linux package, or with Omarchy integration where Herald follows the theme and adds itself to the menu and keybindings. It is free, open source and MIT licensed, "still alpha, so expect rough edges", and not affiliated with Nous Research, linking iamlukethedev/Herald-OS; the still is a "Good morning, Alex." screen with a "What would you like to make happen?" box, "Plan my day", "Start a mission", and "Make a theme" buttons, a "Pick up where you left off" card with "Not now" and "Turn on" buttons, and "No missions yet" under "Active missions", beside a terminal with color swatches at a "[hermes@herald-os ~]$" prompt.
