minviable_org: Moved the Build Box to a $250 Craigslist Mac Mini From 2018
@minviable_org · 2018 Mac Mini
minviable_org says everybody is posting inference benchmarks, so minviable_org did something different: fed up with all the Apple network permission drama, minviable_org moved the build box to a $250 Craigslist Mac Mini from 2018, calls the results shocking considering the cost of the other gear on the comparison table, and guesses that on GitHub Actions alone the box will pay for itself in a few months; the still is a "BENCHMARK REPORT: FULL-STACK BUILD PERFORMANCE VS. COST ROI" card comparing MACHINE A ($2,000) Apple M4 Pro at 1.0x (Baseline Speed), MACHINE B ($250) Intel i5-8500B @ 3.00GHz (6 CPUs, 31.2 GiB x86_64, Omarchy 4.0.4) at 2.29x SLOWER (Warm), and MACHINE C ($20,000) Apple M3 Ultra at 1.21x SLOWER (Warm), with builds per hour per $1,000 of 688, 2,404, and 57.
